Organisation in memory where cognitive processes can be understood in terms of networks that link together neuron-like units.

Once connections are established, through practice appropriate cues permit an individual to learn.

PDP Explains:

  1. We can bypass inaccurate information, g. say an inaccurate sentence and know solution.
  2. Some clues are better than others, g. first letters rather than others.
  3. We can make spontaneous generalizations, g. assume based on knowledge we have gathered, although no direct evidence.
  4. We can make default assignments, g. fill in blanks of knowledge we aren't certain on.

Hard to test and it attempts to account for a range of cognitive processes, not just memory.
