What is communication?

Communication is the transmission and reception of information Medium

What is mass communication?

The process by which a person, group or large organization creates a message and transmits it through some type of medium to a large, anonymous audience (i.e. movie)

What is the media?

If a medium is the mechanism through which communication happens then... “the media" are the mechanisms - the content and distribution systems (e.g. internet, tv) through which information, education and entertainment are transmitted.

What is journalism?

The research, gathering and dissemination of new info (“news") to wide new audience about current events, trends, issues and people.

It's also:

• A form of cultural production
• A social process that builds community
• A first draft of history
• A powerful form of social critique and advocacy
