  • Beginning in 1965, Che traveled to several countries in Central and South America and in Africa to serve in rebel governments and to help train guerrillas for revolution.
  • The CIA tracked Che's activities because the U.S. believed strongly that socialism in Latin America would severely challenge U.S. interests there.
  • In 1967, Che was captured by CIA-trained forces in Bolivia where he was executed.
• Like Fanon for Africa, Che became an important symbol and inspiration for the cause of national liberation in Latin America. Many subsequent movements were inspired by his example.
