Ecosystem services: do not have a monetary value, but society is reliant on them ecosystem functions example: Due to the fact that water evaporates and forms clouds in the atmosphere, some of the longwave radiation that is reemitted by the surface is absorbed and reradiated from particulates in the clouds and is directed back to earth (greenhouse effect) . This is part of the hydrological cycle but without it, its average temperature on Earth would be 0 C, not 17 C.
