We need to maintain our social cohesion and harmony. Australia has to continue to combat racism and intolerance, and the laws and policies were essential in doing this. Australia has come a long way since the White Australia Policy. The systems have changed to allow the freedom of equal rights and to be treated fairly regardless of race, colour or origin. But some laws must be obeyed, so there is a clear understanding of what is expected to live as an Australian in your everyday life.
