According to Socrates, what is the philosopher's role in society? Would Socrates and Plato be in favor of democracy? Why or why not?. Ancient History
The philosopher's role in his society grants him no power. Plato thinks that philosopher's should have the highest power. He says that a political power and philosophy go hand-in-hand, philosophers are reasonable and educated. I feel that Socrates and Plato would be against the idea of having a democracy. They are aware of some of the downfalls of this kind of society, and feel that a democracy would eventually lead to injustice dishonest men leading.
