What was the effect of the first assault on the Trojan camp?. Ancient History
The Latins attack shortly after Nisus and Euryalus are killed. They search to find a weak spot in one of the fortress walls, but find none. Then, Turnus sets fire to a high tower just outside the main gate, killing many Trojans. The Trojans panic but find renewed hope when Ascanius manages to kill a Latin captain. The Trojans open the main gate of the fortress and surprise and kill many Latins before Turnus forces the army to retreat back into the fortress. It is then that Turnus manages to make his way into the fortress and kills many Trojans. He is outnumbered in the end and manages to escape barely and float back to his comrades by way of the Tiber River.
